In a twist on typical Honens performances, step back in time and into the intimate world of George Frideric Handel’s Italian cantatas (multi-movement vocal compositions), presented in partnership with Early Music Voices. Featuring soprano Maya Kherani alongside Andrea Case on baroque cello, Michel Angers on theorbo and guitar, and Justin Luchinski on harpsichord, On Stage: Solitaria brings together three rarely heard works written between 1707 and 1709 during Handel’s years in Italy.
These cantatas were never intended for grand concert halls. Written for private salons and small gatherings, they unfold like personal confessions, like one voice carried by the delicate colours of a few instruments. Each work tells the story of someone wrestling with powerful emotions: love, grief, frustration, or loneliness.
Deeply personal and dramatically expressive, On Stage: Solitaria invites you into the quiet intensity of Handel’s early music, where every gesture, silence, and phrase feels strikingly close.
