Keys for Newcomers, an innovative pilot program, offers newcomers* to Canada accessible music education by removing financial and language barriers.
Students aged 5 to 18 may apply for a grant to cover the costs of piano lessons, music books, and loaner instruments. Classes are offered in group formats or one-on-one, and in student’s native language.
Experienced Piano Teachers
Teachers interested in establishing their own studios are offered rent free studio space, a piano or keyboard for their home (subject to availability), and seminars introducing them to the Canadian system of music education. This program also includes a same-language student referral program.
Currently our pilot project is offered to newcomers from Ukraine. The program is expected to expand its reach to other immigrant communities in future years.
*A newcomer is defined as a person residing in Canada for three years or less.
Success of Keys for Newcomers would not be possible without our incredible partners. Special thanks to Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS), Mount Royal Conservatory, Burns Memorial Fund, and founding donor, Heather Edwards.
