About Community Events
Over hundreds of years, the piano has become a vessel for storytelling and connection—bringing people together in places where music is shared, stories are told, and life unfolds. It has shaped the sound of families, communities, and cultures across time.
Today, the piano remains the first instrument many children experience, a way to access creativity, play, and joy. Through our community initiatives, Honens aims to bring the piano to the centre of our cultural fabric, celebrating its artistry, accessibility, and the emotions it brings to people of all ages.
Honens’ community events invite audiences to experience the piano in new, and familiar, ways. Each program is designed to spark curiosity, foster connection, and ignite a lifelong love of piano music.
Experience the joy, share in the music, and be part of a community brought together by the power of the piano.

Festival
The annual Honens Festival, which takes place every September, offers free concerts in accessible locations in Calgary and High River. In addition, Honens also presences a first look at some of the outstanding next generation artists studying in Calgary, and hosts adaptive concerts for neurodiverse and disability communities and young audiences.

PIANO PROJECT YYC
Piano Project YYC brings the joy of live piano music to unexpected corners of Calgary, transforming libraries, cafés, parks, plazas, and community hubs into moments of shared cultural delight. Throughout the spring and summer, you’ll stumble upon free pop‑up performances that turn an ordinary day into something memorable—whether you planned to be there or simply happened to walk by.

Piano Day
On the 88th day of the year, Honens joins organizations around the world in celebrating Piano Day—a global tribute to the piano and its 88 keys. Founded in 2015 by German pianist and composer Nils Frahm, Piano Day invites us to honour the instrument in creative, inclusive, and inspiring ways.
At Honens, we mark the occasion by bringing free, live piano concerts into everyday spaces across Calgary—sharing music where people live, gather, and heal.
Provide Access to Music
Your support gives the gift of music, through free concerts in accessible locations, to countless people in our community.
