Shemar Herbert

Shemar “King Mars” Herbert is a choreographer, movement director, dancer, and educator based in Calgary, Canada, with Caribbean roots. With a professional background in Jazz and Hip Hop, he has performed on some of the world’s most respected stages. In 2023, Shemar toured with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks on the Family of Jazz tour, appearing at Jacob’s Pillow (Massachusetts), the National Arts Centre (Ottawa), and the Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur (Québec).

In 2024 and 2025, he was a Canadian National Finalist at Red Bull Dance Your Style, placing in the Top 8 nationwide. His performance credits also include Call and Response, Nervous Systems, and OLIO with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, as well as award-winning music videos and major cultural festivals.

As an educator, Shemar has taught thousands of students through Sound Kreations, Unity Charity, and leading studios across Canada. His classes highlight improvisation, individuality, and cultural depth—bridging studio training with the energy of street dance and empowering dancers to refine technique while discovering their own voice.
