2025 Honens Honours Award Recipient

Clarice Evans Siebens was born in southern Alberta during the height of the depression and raised on the family farm in Parkland. The youngest of two remarkable daughters, Clarice inherited her wit and storytelling abilities from her Welsh father, and her curiosity and love of learning from her Norwegian mother. Her mother’s motto was: “Educate a daughter and you educate the next generation.” Clarice has taken that with her and has spent her life quietly paying it forward.
Clarice attended the Universities of Alberta and Toronto and received a Bachelor of Education. She later taught for the Calgary Board of Education, married, and raised three children. She is now the proud grandmother of eight.
In 1953, Clarice was one of 50 girls chosen from across Canada by the Weston family to attend Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation. Clarice has recently received the King Charles III Coronation Medal and is featured in the PBS documentary Coronation Girls.
Theatre has been Clarice’s lifelong passion. Throughout her career as an actor, she performed a wide variety of roles and has been a stalwart supporter of the arts. In 2006, she received the Harry and Martha Cohen Award for sustained and significant contribution to theatre in Calgary. Clarice is a dedicated supporter of Honens and was honoured to narrate in two Festival season performances with Artem Yasynskyy in 2016 and the Miró Quartet in 2017.
