Promoting and fostering excellence in the art of piano performance.
Canada’s Honens International Piano Competition, held triennially in Calgary, is one of the world’s most prestigious piano competitions. For more than 30 years, the Competition has dedicated itself to identifying the next generation of Complete Artists—pianists with exceptional technical skill, innovative artistic vision, an ability to connect deeply with diverse audiences, and an understanding of their role in today’s cultural and social landscape.
At Honens, competitors are treated as family. From the moment they arrive in Calgary, they are supported, celebrated, and encouraged to share their unique artistry. The Competition is designed to be as enriching as it is rigorous, creating an environment where individuality is honoured and excellence can truly flourish.
Awarding some of the world’s largest cash prizes in piano competitions, Honens also creates opportunities for holistic growth and exposure through its Artist Development Program—a comprehensive, three-year artistic development and career accelerator, equipping its Laureates with the resources, connections, and experiences necessary to build successful, sustainable careers in music.
The Honens International Piano Competition discovers emerging pianists who reflect the philosophy of the Complete Artist—pianists who are not only outstanding virtuosos, but risk takers, collaborators, and communicators who can express and interpret ideas from a wide cultural context, and whose distinctive voices and versatility demonstrates the level of preparedness necessary to embark upon professional careers.
