Keys for Newcomers, an innovative pilot program, offers newcomers* to Canada accessible music education by removing financial and language barriers.
For students, Keys for Newcomers provides grants who are seeking music education and positive outlets to help with their mental health and transition to Calgary. Grants cover the cost of piano lessons, keyboards (through a lending library), and music books.
The program also creates a pathway for piano teachers new to Calgary by supporting the development of their own music studio, through provision of keyboards, mentorship opportunities, rent free studio space, and referrals of same language students.
*A newcomer is defined as a person residing in Canada for three years or less.
