Mitchell Prentice
Mitchell Prentice is a Canadian tenor saxophonist born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. Growing up, Mitchell enjoyed listening to classic rock from Led Zeppelin, Cream, Pink Floyd, and Rush before discovering jazz.
Mitchell graduated from MacEwan University with a bachelor’s degree in music performance under the tutelage of Jerrold Dubyk. Mitchell’s musical influences include his idol Sonny Rollins, as well as Stan Getz, John Coltrane, and Michael Brecker.
In March 2024, Mitchell made his debut performance as part of the Yardbird Suite’s Emerging Artist series and was the opening act for saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk at Edmonton’s 2024 JazzFest. Mitchell released his EP titled The Watchman’s Message in July 2024.
Mitchell now resides in Calgary and continues to pursue musical opportunities in his hometown, aiming to enrich the city’s music scene while advancing his high level of excellence, knowledge, and experience on the tenor saxophone.
