Mind Over Music (MOM) is experiential learning that expands a listener’s musical appreciation through the application of cognitive science. Is it possible to enhance one’s enjoyment of music by becoming a better listener? This is just one of the questions that the MOM experience engages its participants in.
The foundations of MOM were conceived years ahead of its launch at the 2022 Honens International Piano Competition, but the project only began to take form in the masterful hands of 2018 Honens Prize Laureate, Nicolas Namoradze. Through the uniqueness of Nicolas’ skills as a neuroscientist and acclaimed pianist, MOM came to life as an evidence-based approach / technique that creates accessible learning for music lovers of all ages.
MOM offers the power and tools to enrich how one experiences music—but it is much more than that. At the debut launch of MOM, Nicolas hosted a four-session, mini-symposium that introduced the universality of these concepts with discussions, workshops, and lecture demonstrations that touch on such topics as performance psychology, mental health, aesthetics, and more.
