This summer, Honens brings the world’s finest emerging pianists to Calgary for an internationally renowned piano competition and ten days of extraordinary music-making. The Honens International Piano Competition awards the largest prize of its kind—$100,000 CAD and an Artist Development Program valued at a half-million dollars.
The Competition comes to an adrenaline-charged close over two evenings of performances of chamber music and orchestra. Plan to attend both evenings! The three Finalists each perform a program with the Azahar Ensemble and a concerto with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and guest conductor Karina Canellakis. Finals Sessions are preceded by pre-concert chats at 6:30 pm featuring Honens’ Artistic Director Jon Kimura Parker.
On the first of two nights of Finals, the three Finalists perform a quintet with the Azahar Ensemble. Each Finalist will perform a chamber recital of one of the following set programs:
