Brian Current

Brian Current   composer

Brian Current, one of North America’s leading young composers, was a 2005 Guggenheim Fellow and recipient of the 2003 Barlow Prize. He studied music at McGill University and UC Berkeley.  In 2001, his work For the Time Being won Grand prize at the CBC National Competition for Young Composers, and was a selected work at the International Rostrum of Composers in Paris. His music has been performed across North America and beyond by the CBC Radio, American Composers (Carnegie Hall), and Esprit Orchestras, the Indianapolis, Oakland East Bay, and Winnipeg Symphonies, the Warsaw Philharmonic, and Nouvel Ensemble Moderne. His CD, This Isn’t Silence: Works for Symphony Orchestra was nominated for a 2008 JUNO Award. Brian Current lives in Toronto where he conducts the New Music Ensemble of the Royal Conservatory.
