Music students from across Alberta learn from the distinguished members of the Jury every three years during the Honens Competition. Masterclasses offer helpful instruction on topics ranging from technical and performance skills to musical style and artistic interpretation. They take place every morning during the Competition Quarterfinals.

Students from across the province audition in-person or submit recordings in order to be considered for a masterclass. A selection committee chooses three musicians for each class. All masterclasses are free and open to the public.
